A Stoat attacking a rabbit in England. The rabbit survived the attack and later ran off into a hedge, although a bit wobbly. The rabbit was checked for myxomatosis and showed no symptoms.

More stoat antics from our hand reared stoat. His mother was killed on the road and mu husband found him trying to suckle from her dead body. He did really well living mostly on fresh road kill my husband would find for him and neighbours would bring us any that they found. He was re-released into the wild the following spring. While we had him we all enjoyed him very much.

The stoat can be found almost everywhere throughout the northern temperate, subarctic and arctic regions, that is in Europe, Asia, Canada and the United States. It was introduced into New Zealand in an unsuccessful attempt to control the rabbit population and is considered a pest because it eats the eggs and young of native birds. Stoats are largely nocturnal or crepuscular but will sometimes come out during the day.

During a walk, we saw this poor young hare get killed by a stoat despite the efforts of its parents.
